The title is broad, but if you are reading this, you’re probably seeking ways to help live after, what feels like, a lifetime of trauma/drama/reactions/etc… Personally, I’m recovering from a f*cked up childhood, survival of everything, including a narcissist, losing it all, and surviving suicide. Here I am, FINALLY at the age of (over) forty, healing. So… if this decades-long-journey of self-discovery continues to work (fingers crossed, knock on wood, pray, whatever…) I will have only lived a half-a-life of trauma. I’m not sure where you are on your journey, or if you want advice, but if you’re interested, this is how I began:
Google: What is trauma.
From that search, on, it’s been a frequently uncomfortable, deeply powerful, painfully healing, life changing, and a forever enlightening experience. I’m all in. I am officially addicted to healing.
Jordan Thornton – Inner Work @jordanthornton on YouTube has been an essential tool for my self-led discovery work. What he provides is a tangible, check-markable list of current, or at least, relatable, content to help assist those of us who are tasked with becoming decent humans on our own. Those who want to become more educated without the money, time or energy to commit to formal education and/or therapeutic practices. Those who are too overwhelmed to study how to heal, and those who’ve attempted and got lost down some rabbit hole. I feel led to hand over this ‘cheat-sheet’. If you don’t know where to start, start here. Spiral when you need to. Obsess over different paths you find yourself on. Forget about fixing anything, take a break, and come back when you are rested. The list will still be here. It will probably evolve, develope and have new content, but it’ll be here until you outgrow it.
I guarantee you will find some sort of direction, clarification, and/or understanding of yourself if you read, just a couple of the books in the following segments.
Shadow Work:
- “Meeting The Shadow: The Hidden Power of the Dark Side of Human Nature” Edited by Connie Zweig, and Jeremiah Abrams
- “Archetype: A Natural History of the Self” by Anthony Stevens
- “Healing the Child Within” by Charles L. Whitfield
- “The Betrayal of the Body” by Alexander Lowen
- “Co-Dependence: Healing the Human Condition” by Charles L. Whitfield
- “Psychosynthesis: A Psychology of the Spirit” by Ann Gila and John Firman
