Anatomy of Cannabis

I smoke pot. Like… probably every day. I’ve experimented with it, smoked too much and have grown into a mature consumer of cannabis. I am also a nurse, so as I pondered the how’s and why’s of marijuana, I decided to conduct my own research. This is what I found:

There are different genders of cannabis.

Male (plain)

Female (has buds)

Smoking the bud gets you high. While this seems like a *duh* fact, there are many ways to ingest weed. I am specifically referring to lighting it on fire and inhaling the cannabinoid and terpenes.

  • Cannabinoids and Terpenes work in tandem, but it is still not understood how!
  • Cannabinoids & Terpenes are contained in the trichomes
    • Trichomes are resin glands found primarily within the bud.
  • Cannabinoids & Terpenes are activated by heat. Smoking it allows them to enter your lungs, and thus, body.
  • Cannabinoids and Terpenes can be extracted from the plant to make: Hash, Edibles, Vapes, and other Concentrates.

Terpenes are the scent compounds, meaning the smell and taste.

Some Cannabinoids Are:

  • THC
  • CBD
  • THCA
  • CBG
  • CBN + hundreds more!

When the cannabinoids are consumed they interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system. This system, found in the human body, is what allows you to feel euphoric/high. Cannabis contains phytocannabinoids (THC+), which interact with the endo receptors and are released! Many factors affect this interaction: The strain, one’s own chemistry, and one’s own sensitivities/tolerances, just to name a few. The effects can also plateau, so smoke wisely. It gets expensive the higher your tolerance is.

I will continue to add to this post as I find out more!

Stay Happy!
